Baby registry tips new parents wish they'd known

Six lessons from the first six months — before you finalize that registry.
01

Skip the newborn-size clothes.

Most babies grow out of newborn within 2–3 weeks. Stock up on 0–3 month and 3–6 month instead.

02

Two of everything you'll wash daily.

Burp cloths, swaddles, crib sheets, changing pad covers. One in use, one in the wash is the bare minimum.

03

The expensive bouncer is rarely the right one.

Babies have strong opinions about where they like to sit. Register for one mid-tier seat and a swing, then add more after.

04

Sleep gear earns its keep.

A safe sleep space, a reliable monitor, and a few good swaddles or sleep sacks pay for themselves in the first month.

05

Don't forget yourself.

Postpartum recovery supplies, nursing essentials, a good water bottle. The parent awake at 3am needs gear too.

06

Add gift cards on purpose.

Diapers, formula, and clothing sizes you'll need in six months are perfect gift-card territory.

A registry essential

You could buy a baby monitor, or you could buy a Nanit.

Nanit automatically tracks sleep, sends real-time notifications, and delivers personalized insights — all from one device. It knows the difference between a whimper and a cry. It tells you when something's actually worth waking up for. And it's there for every 3am check, so you don't have to be.
